Alexandros Oikonomou (born 1983) is a secondary school teacher of History and Geography in Special Secondary Education in the Netherlands.
He holds an academic background in Political Science (BA), History (MSc) and History Didactics (MA). Oikonomou has extensive professional experience working with students with autism spectrum conditions (ASC), ADHD, giftedness, and trauma-related challenges. He is critical of the overuse of diagnostic labels in education and affiliated with the working group of Professor Laura Batstra, contributing to ongoing discussions on education, behavior and diagnostics.
Before entering the education sector, he built a diverse international professional career. In 2024, he was a finalist for the Dutch Special Secondary Education Teacher of the Year award.
In parallel with his teaching work, Oikonomou develops freely accessible educational materials through the platform MeesterA, with a focus on history education, exam-oriented historical contexts, and educational gamification.
He has a strong interest in artificial intelligence in education, working specifically on prompt engineering and the critical benchmarking of AI-generated content.
